David Keith Wilcher, age 21, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. David as born April 14, 1988 in St. Petersburg, Florida, the son of David & Linda (Dykes) Wilcher, and was raised in Florida with his younger brother, Dwayne, until his family came to Caro in 1993. David graduated from Caro High School in May of 2006 and enlisted with the United States Army in September of that same year, where he served his country proudly in the infantry. He served one tour in Iraq as a gunner on a Personal Security Detail for his Sergeant Major. While in Iraq, David had an opportunity to reunite with his cousin, SPC Ryan Crittenden and aunt, SFC Lorene Dykes. He returned in October of 2008 and continued his training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. David will be best remembered for his commitment to his family, friends and country. As a young boy, he enjoyed skateboarding, swimming, reading and playing video games. More recently, he enjoyed spending time with his friends, playing his guitar, playing Halo and Guitar Hero and driving around listening to music. David is survived by his mother, Linda and her husband, Ross Downing of Caro; his brother, Dwayne Wilcher of Caro; step-brothers and sisters, Chad, Ryan Andrea and Meghin Downing, all of Caro; his father, Dave Wilcher and his wife, Evelyn, of Florida; Evelyn's daughter, Samantha; grandparents, Gaye Dykes, Virginia Wilcher, and Richard & Cora Lou Downing, all of Caro, Gloria Moose and her companion, Andy, of Detroit; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
