Spencer L. BeMent (Spence) passed a way peacefully on Independence Day, July 4, 2024. He was born on April 1, 1937 to Marian (Mochty) and Earl I. BeMent in Detroit, Michigan. Most of his early youth was spent there and in East Tawas, Michigan. Another move took him to Celina, Ohio where he...

Not sure what to say?

Dear Spencer, I remember you and I on the basketball court for East Tawas high many years ago. I remember your sister Dawn and your parents who owned the appliance store on the corner of State and Newman in East Tawas. After you moved to Ohio,I heard that you predictably went on to a stellar basketball high school career. I was proud to read of your stellar academic career and applaud your humanitarian and community contributions. My family and I lived in A2 for nearly a decade when I was on...

We knew & loved Spence for many years thru the Dixboro Church & as a neighbor.....he was always so gracious & thoughtful about helping others.......truly a fine example for all of us to look up to....-Cliff & Sherry Murphy

I will always remember Mr. BeMent's great kindness to my mother, Carol, when they both sang in the Dixboro choir. She would not have been able to continue singing without his cheerful and unblinking help. My sympathy to his family and friends. He was a "good guy!"

I remember Spencer for his years of loyal volunteer service to the Dixboro Boy Scouts of America Troop 30 with his outreach to countless young men in helping shape their lives. Spence was chairman of the Troop 30 adult council and he confessed to me that he loved the chocolate chip cookies baked by patriarch Glen Freeman when the latter hosted meetings in his home. A wonderful husband and family man. I admired his friendly smile and willingness to accept responsibility. What a mentor! ...

My condolences for your loss. Spence was my senior colleague for many years in EECS. He was very kind to me when I was a junior faculty member and helped me feel more welcome in the department. He was a frequent and generous contributor to my fundraising efforts for the MS Society. He was a great gentleman and he will be missed.

Aileen and Family, We are so sorry for your loss. My husband, Brad and I, really enjoyed playing bridge with Spencer and Eileen for many years. He was a very, very nice, kind man. I do remember him telling me that one of his ancestors was a barrel maker just like mine. I wasn't aware of all the richness and fullness iof his life, and I am really pleased to hear that he could sing, (something I really enjoy too). I wish he could have regaled our bridge group with a song or...
