Not sure what to say?

To the family and friends of Spider: I am deeply and extremely sorry for your loss.I knew Spider through my in-laws and Spider was a wonderful person who helped me out a tremendous amount with my Photography. My daughter who is 4 really liked being around him she alway's told him he was silly and that he was her buddy.Spider and I traded a few reciepes mostly he shared and we enjoyed.I can not believe this has happened and in my heart from what I know of and about Spider Martin, I can not...

Spider is one of my all-time newspaper heroes. Back in the mid-60s, when I was a 21-year-old reporter covering federal courts at the Birmingham News, we were only a year or two apart in age but he seemed so much older, wiser, more experienced and totally confident. please accept my humble thoughts of sympathy and prayers for grace for all of spider's family, friends and pets during this time.

Anyone who knew Spider can imagine my chagrin when I read this notice only a few moments ago, when the funeral is now over. I would like so much to have been there, to be with his family and friends, of whom I consider myself one.

I have known Spider since around 1968, when we both lived on Southside. We haven't always kept in touch but would run into each other occasionally since we ran in the same circles. Within the last year we saw each other at the M. L. King Breakfast,...

spider was a good friend and we'll miss him. he lived life, spread joy, and expressed love.

may god bless his soul and give comfort to his loved ones. khalsa family and golden temple family.

This is the end of an era. I worked with Spider Martin years ago when I was in advertising. He was quite a character and very inspirational to a budding young artist. He will be greatly missed.

Tracey, You won't remember me, I am Ann Young's mother and your Dad made quite an impression on me. It's not easy to lose anyone, but a Dad for a daughter is really hard.

Spider was an inspiration to me in my younger days as a strugling artist here in Birmingham. He showed me how one can survive the intimidation of others while in pursuit of an unpopular activity. How to be true to yourself and your art. He will be missed.
