Not sure what to say?

It's been a few months now, and Stan's artistic greatness (treating all of life as improvisational art), his humanity, his kind words to those fortunate to be around him ("you look nice"), his unique experimental approach to musical and artistic expression have only grown in value in my mind. There
are moments when I ask myself: how would Stan deal with this situation now? Stan had more to give, he was not done giving. I am selfishly sad because of it.

Stan and I worked at powells in the 90s. at his apt and studio and then house, we would talk art and life. He was my dads age. He was so warm and engaged; to hear him talk about his paintings was such a treat. And he would listen when I talked. Im real sad about his going, but am glad hes found peace. -- john crouse

he taught me to see and hear. this was a great gift and he gave it to so many of us.

I was greatly saddened to read of Stan's death. He was a very dear friend from '69-'71. We often (almost daily) listened to music and played one-on-one basketball which Stan-big lug that he was-would invariably win. And I vividly recall the day Stan brought a few sheets of dental dam to a park when meeting Wayne Turner and I. He cut the pieces in various widths and then we proceeded to blow. And Stan never stopped. No one will ever play the Vibraband as well. My condolences to his family, Jim...

I will alway remember you,Stan as a mentor and friend.

Stan was my band mate and musical mentor in UPEPO, and we often drove long distances together in our band truck, Sporky, and the newer ones as well. I do remember the end of the band's tenure in Chico, where he and I and our soundman, Michael Christie stayed up all night on the lawn of the University's president (he must have been out of town)--and shared spirits and spirit together. He certainly had the spirit: for freedom, for art, for music and for the very best of things in life. He also...

Stan burst with creativity and joy for life. With two friends, during High School days, he would travel and serenade with remarkable harmonies those of us in the midst of adolescent angst which dissolved with every tune. My mom bought several of his early paintings. I wish I knew what happened to them. I am glad I found Stan a few years ago through a gallery notice. But sorry our communications were through email, which does not sing. Lot of music in heaven, Stan.

Evelyn Wood, Stan's sister, is my best friend from kindergarten. I remember sitting on the Wood Family Home's front lawn, listening to Stan play the Vibra Band, when I was in high school. He was the coolest guy and I had such a crush on him. He was always so warm and friendly and always gave you so much attention, even though he was years older than us. He was this mysterious muse, who embodied peace, love and tranquility. Later on in life, I grew to admire his talent and now see so much...
