Dr. Stanley W. Ash, 79, Retired Professor Emeritus, Marshall University, of Huntington, passed away in St. Mary's Medical Center, Sunday, September 28, 2003. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at Beard Mortuary, at 11:00 a.m., burial immediately following in Ridgelawn Memorial Park.
He was born July 10, 1924, in Sistersville, WV, the son of the late Loman C. Ash and Laura B. Ash. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a son Robert Loman Ash.
Dr. Ash attended Freed-Hardeman College then served in WWII in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater; attended Marietta College; a graduate of Glenville State College, received a Masters from Marshall College. While working on his PHD in Biological Science,he attended University of Pennsylvania, Florida State University, and West Virginia University.
Dr. Ash is a Distinguished Alumnus of Sistersville High School, charter member of VFW-Sistersville, WV, member of VFW #9738, member of American Legion, member of West Virginia Native Plant Society; member of West Virginia Academy of Science. He served as a faculty member in the Department of Biological Science at Marshall University for 46 years.
He is honored annually by naming a student who has earned "The Stanley W. Ash Award for Excellence in Biology" at Marshall University.
He is survived by Bobbie Ash Tyson Beasley, mother of their children; two daughters and sons-in-law Judith E. Ash-Young and Michael L. Young of South Point, Ohio., Susan A. DeLeGal and Fraysse A. DeLeGal of Jesup, Ga., Dr. Bonnie L. Dean, loving dear companion, two grandsons Philip Ash DeLeGal and Brian J. DeLeGal; and a Brother and sister-in-law Donald R. Ash and Roma D. Ash of Sistersville, WV., a niece Kathy Heater; two nephews Scott and Brent Ash; and Annie.
