Professor Stanley Bashkin passed away on May 1, 2007. Stanley was born June 20, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY. He received a B.A. from Brooklyn College in 1944 (cum laude) and a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Wisconsin in 1950. Following academic and research positions at Louisiana State...

Not sure what to say?

What a great honor to have known Stanley! I am in awe of the fullness of his life and the impact he had on the world. I often wished, hearing him talk about his physics classes, that I had had the chance to be one of his students. Not mentioned in his bio was a great talent for country-western song lyrics. I remember one about the gear shift of life being "stuck in park over you". I know he is missed by countless friends, students and colleagues. My love to all in his family, especially the...

Growing up on 6th St and having Dr. Bashkin as our next door neighbor will always hold a special place in my heart. Dr Bashkin and my father use to have the most interesting conversations across the fence while they were doing their yard work. I guess they are having those talks again right about now.
Hold close to the Lord Mrs Bashkin, He will keep you and bless you.

Like many of my colleagues, Stanley had a profound impact on both my professional career and my personal life. Through his generous outreach, his vision, and his infectious enthusiasm, Stanley persuaded me to move in new directions, not only in research, but also in life. His commitment to international collaborations brought together gifted scientists, forged lasting friendships, and provided worldly experiences that have endured and enriched our lives. His passing marks the end of an...

I will always have warm memories of the hospitality provided me by Stanley, his family and the entire physics faculty at the UA during my visit there in 1968. Those really were the "good old days" of Beam Foil Spectroscopy and I want to extend my sincerest sympathy to Margaret and the rest of the family on this sad occasion.

Our condolenses to your family. May you find comfort in Jehovah Gods promise of a resurrection.

Stanley's passing defines the end of an era - his establishment of beam-foil spectroscopy was an outstanding contribution to the world of physics research, for which he will always be remembered. I would like to say that he taught me all i know about beam-foil spectoscopy, and i suppose at least indirectly he did - since i learned most from his "sidekick" Bill Bickel, and presumably he had learned it all from Stanley.

We all know it was the strong drive and focus of Stanley that made...

I grew up next door to the Bashkin's and have so many fond memories of the entire family. I will always have a special place in my heart for Dr. Bashkin.
