Stanley passed away July 22, 2010 after a very long and confining illness.

He was born November 12, 1925 in Lake McMurray to parents Carl and Anna Bruhn. He was the youngest of nine children.

He was known affectionately to friends and neighbors as "Bud".

Stan attended Sedro-Woolley High School for three years and graduated from Everett High School while working nights at Walton Plywood. After graduation he followed a family tradition and enlisted in the Navy. He served proudly for three years on the "U.S. Hill" and was Honorably Discharged January 2, 1951.

His education continued at Everett Community College and the University of Washington Law School. He graduated in 1954. He was initiated into Sigma Chi Fraternity in 1952. Stanley served as Skagit County Deputy Prosecutor, and practiced individually for three years prior to joining Bill Bannister in a partnership that lasted 26 years. Many of the young lawyers who worked with them are still serving the people of Skagit County. With mixed emotions Stan left Bill Bannister and the firm when he was elected Superior Court Judge. He served for two terms and retired in 1997.

He filled his retirement with golf at the Skagit Golf and Country Club, duck and pheasant hunting, fishing and skiing with family and friends. He and his wife Marlene shared a love of traditional jazz and traveled from Seattle to Boston to hear top bands. He was active in Rotary and other service organizations.

Despite his exciting career the most important part of Stan's life was his family and his friends. He will be remembered as a loving fun husband, father, grandfather and friend with a wonderful sense of humor.

Stan is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marlene; his daughter, Elizabeth Stewart (John); granddaughters, Whitney and Carter; his daughter, Barbara Sinnett and grandson, Brendan; two step-sons, Alan and Jerry Frank; and two stepgrandsons. Jason and Bryan Frank; and many favorite nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and eight brothers and sisters.

Not sure what to say?

Was always good fishin with ya judge. Now run over there and set yer own hook. RUN!!! Will always miss ya friend.

Dear Marlene,
I only recently heard of Stan's passing from Dave Meekhof. I was so saddened to hear of this, as I have often recalled Stan coming across the street with a cigar in his mouth and his dog by his side. My best wishes go to you and yours. You were our favorite neighbors!

Keith and I send our love and caring to you Marlene for your loss. We treasure our long time friendship with you and Stan. We have our wonderful memories of Stan to sustain us and feel privileged to have known the "judge". We hope we will see you again at some jazz event somewhere.
Love and hugs,

Dear Marlene and family,
We have been thinking of you today especially and wishing we could have joined you in the celebration of Stan's life, and we would have but for Bill's "mysterious" disease sending him to ER in the wee hours of this morning. He is so glad he got a chance to visit with you and Alan yesterday. We have such warm memories of Stan and his friendly infectious spirit.
You have been, you are and you will be in our prayers.
Bill and Louise Pihl

Dear Marlene and family, We have been thinking of you and wishing we could join you in the celebration of Stan's life today, and we would have been but for Bill's "mysterious" disease sending him to ER in the wee hours of this morning. He was so happy he got to visit with you and Alan yesterday at Church.
We have such warm memories of Stan and his friendly, contagious spirit.
You have been, you are and you will be in our prayers.

Dear Marlene, Elizabeth and Barbara;
Stan drew up the first will I ever made in Mount Vernon. He was one of the first people in Mount Vernon to buy one of my paintings. I didn't want to sell it to him because I thought it was too subdued for his sunny disposition, but it did look good in his office.
One time he took a very long time to bill me for a service and I remember his laugh when I sent him some worthless old bills, with a note reminding him how long I had been waiting for...

Marlene; Wyn joins me in saying you folks have been missed at Jazz Festivals. We enjoyed our visits and the dances exchanged. Regrettably, Wyn and Stan never did get the opportunity to do the "Meatloaf Cookoff Challenge". I do hope we are privileged to see you at a Festival somewhere in the NW.

Dear Marlene & Family,
Stan was such a fun guy. We have missed both of you over the last few years at the jazz festivals & dances. You both always added a lot & we enjoyed your company. Ken liked to talk about court & court happenings with Stan. We send you our thoughts, prayers & love, Ken & Diane

Dear Marlene & family -- Stan was a pleasure to know. We have missed you both over the past few years at the jazz functions. Ken always enjoyed chatting with Stan over some of their in-common courtroom situations. We both always enjoyed your friendship & would love to see you again some day. Our thoughts, prayers & love to you....Ken & Diane
