Leson’s Funeral Home LTD. - Canora Obituary

With sadness, the family of the late Stanley Holodniuk announce his passing at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on December 8, 2023, at the age of 86 years.
Stanley was born on December 14, 1936, to John and Anne (nee Tataryn) Holodniuk on the family farm, one mile east of Arabella, SK. He was the eldest of four children and attended Arabella School until grade 8. After that, due to his father’s surgery, he had to stay home to help on the farm.
Stanley worked many different jobs such as grain farming, making hay, road construction, and in the summer, skidding logs with horses and driving lumber trucks to the sawmill in winter. There was always a lot of chores every day too, milking cows and feeding all the livestock. In 1961, Stanley began working at the Norquay Coop driving fuel truck and helping in the store.
Shortly after this, he met his lifelong partner, Florence Turta, who he married on July 20, 1963. It was after their marriage that they decided to go farming full time on their own, grain farming, raising cattle, and feeding livestock. Life was busy with their young family, a son, Stephen and daughter, Janice.
Stanley was very proud of his two children and became even prouder of his four grandchildren. His family continued to grow, and he became a great gido to 5 great grandchildren. These were his proudest days, spending time with them all, outside with the animals (especially the horses) or in the shop fixing things, or later at the kitchen table.
Stanley had a great love of music and was well known for playing the accordion, but also for showing his skills on the fiddle. Along with his brother Mike, they spent many weekends playing at weddings and dances.
Stanley was a proud member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Swan Plain and dedicated his time as a church elder and altar server for over 45 years. This was a very important part of his life.
Even though working hard was so important, there was always time for a coffee and visit with his family and friends.
Stanley continued to help on the farm until this past fall. He was a taxi driver and pushed manure with his “310 CAT.” He even sat in the bagger tractor this fall. He always wanted to help when he could. We will miss him and the extra help.
Stanley was predeceased by his parents, John and Annie; his daughter, Janice Kosolowsky; and his brothers-in-law, Bernard Kindratsky and Ron Twerdoclib.
He is survived by his loving wife, Florence; son, Stephen (Tracey); son-in-law, Glen Kosolowsky; 4 grandchildren: Ashley Kosolowsky, Justin (Robyn) Holodniuk, Kolby (Amanda) Holodniuk, and Callie (Nick) Holodniuk; 5 great-grandchildren: Jake, Roy, Eve, Clare, and Braylee; brother, Mike (Phyllis); and his sisters, Stella Kindratsky and Minnie Twerdoclib; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
