Not sure what to say?

Stanley and I were high school buddies in Brooklyn, NY. We had both experienced the German occupation of Norway during WWII. Stanley was an usher at my wedding in 1956. Stanley was a great guy and a true friend. My wife Ellen and I always enjoyed seing in him and his wife Ellen. We only wish it could have been more often. He will be missed.

Ellen and family my deepest sympathy.

When I first moved to Frederick 30 years ago, Barbara and Bjorn Stalesen introduced me to their Sons of Norway/Norwegian Society group - it was more like a family and Stanley and Ellen have been the heart of this "family" I think. All the picnics, dinners, promises of a trip to Blob's Park (we never did that together), honey, dances! Dancing with Stanley - he was tireless and enthusiastic and good at it. If he's doing anything right now, he's dancing.

I got to know Stanley fairly early in life , since we were both students at Ft. Hamilton High in Brooklyn . Stanley was a " skolelys " , whereas my flame barely flickered . What we had in common was we had lived in Norway during the occupation .

What was most impressive about Stanley , aside from his intellectual accomplishments , was his integrity and independence . He knew what he wanted and could not be swayed .

Others have commented on his warm personality and gregarious...

Our condolences go out to Ellen and family. We have many fond memories of Stan. When I (Jerry) joined FDA in August 1959, Janet, who had been with FDA for a short time, told me about Stan and Ellen, the friendly couple who also worked there. I soon met them. Throughout my 34 years at FDA, Stan was nearby, physically and organizationally. We saw each other often, passing in the hallways, speaking and sometimes talking for awhile. Stan was without a doubt one of the most friendly, easy going,...

We are all so sorry to hear of our dear cousin and second-uncle, Stanley Nesheim’s death.
Stanley left Lista, Norway in 1946 after WWII, together with his brother, Elmer Magnus.
A telegram arrived at my grandmother’s door, informing that the ship headed for New York, would make a stop in Bergen, on its way up the coast to pick up passengers.
Cousins, aunts and uncles were at the pier in Bergen for a brief meeting. Stanley and Elmer had been in Norway since they arrived in December...

Condolences to the Stanley Nesheim family. In my early days at FDA, Stanley brought in freshly picked apples from his back yard and shared them with us. In Toastmasters' meetings he relayed stories of some of his adventures such as the time he went to the Winter Olympics in Norway. His warm smile, stories of his travels, and enthusiasm for science will be sorely missed.

Stanley was a wonderful person who knew how to combine fun with serious research. I will never forget his FDA retirement party in 1997 at which he and his wife Ellen danced Norwegian dances in traditional costume and had the whole room singing Norwegian folk songs. Stanley was great fun at American Chemical Society local chapter meetings and always had interesting and hilarious stories to tell. His expertise at bee-keeping was unparalleled. Stanley's passing is definitely the end of an...

My sincere condolences to Stanley's Family. Stanley was truly a wonderful and unique person. It was always a joy to be with him and hear his interesting stories. He will be missed.
