I am so sad to hear of Stan´s death. His smile and wit brightened my Sunday mornings.

Goodbye Stan. Didn´t get to say that. Didn´t think I´d have to. You were in such good shape. We skied a lot of miles together. And I enjoyed them all. Especially loved skiing the year you turned 80. Stan was my advisor for graduate studies at KU from 1973 to 1979. He was a great mentor and even better friend. We took many trips to NYC to meet with sponsors. While there we shared many good Italian dinners and even got to do some site-seeing. Later on, I was able to continue working with Stan through consultations on some very important projects at Sandia Nat. Labs. I have always admired Stan Rolfe both professionally and as a person. As a geologist, I have always felt that he understood the essential features of the symbiosis of his field and mine, although his domain of civil engineering did not so interact. I will miss him. I asked him once what he liked about retirement. He mentioned the end of the alarm clock. Now that I am retired, I admire his wisdom even more.
