Crozet, Virginia
1922 - 2023
Stella Elaine Kent Hutchinson, of Crozet, Va., passed away on February 13, 2023, at the age of 100.
Stella was born on July 6, 1922, in Heards, Va., to Early Irving Kent and Olive Maud Kent. She lived with her family at Spring Valley Orchard until the family moved to the Crozet area so that she could attend high school at Greenwood.
Stella married Lacy Elmer Hutchinson on October 14, 1942. Their son, Stephen Kent Hutchinson, was born while Lacy was fighting in France during World War II. Steve was 18 months old before Lacy returned from the war and saw his son.
Stella worked at Dupont during World War II, worked for Dr. Davis in Crozet, and later worked at Crozet Foods which Lacy owned with Claude Saul.
Stella dearly loved her family and Sundays were spent at her parents' house with her brothers and sisters-in-law. She took great pleasure in cooking for her family and making fresh coconut cakes, grinding the coconut herself.
Stella and Lacy retired to Waynesboro, Va., where they spent several happy years. Stella returned to Crozet after his death.
Stella is survived by her son, Stephen Kent Hutchinson (Katherine Rabe); her sister-in-law, Janice Kent; and her dearly loved nephews and niece, Larry Kent (Judy), Chuck Kent (Beth), Wes Kent (Cindy), Ron Kent (Claire), and Paula Martin (Bob).
Stella was preceded in death by her brothers, Early I. Kent Jr., Harry Kent, and Paul Kent; and her sisters-in-law, Betty Jane Kent and Virginia Kent.
The family is grateful for her many dear friends who gave of their love and brought her much joy. Thank you to everyone at The Lodge at Old Trail and The Hospice of the Piedmont for their loving care of Stella.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm., Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Chapel.

I, too, am a cousin of Stella. She lived a wonderful, long life, and we were fortunate to have her for so many years as she was always happy to see us and always shared her happy thoughts with us. She will most assuredly be missed.
