I struggled for a while as to whether I should write anything. I know others have known Stephanie, for far longer than I. But in the days since Stephanie has gone to the other side of the veil -- this email she sent me on June 21st -- has left a mark on my heart.
"The trick with surviving in news with satisfaction is to ALWAYS REMEMBER that this is not life or death. We are passionate about what we do, but we need to put it in perspective to have a successful run at this crazy career....

I am so very sorry for your loss. Stephanie was a dear friend growing up and through High School. She was always kind to everyone and a great friend. We kept in touch during college, and it was so nice to be able to stay in touch via Facebook. Many thoughts and prayers are with her parents, husband and children.

Dave, David, and Gracie - I think about you every day and am praying for God's healing hands to set upon you. It has been wonderful reading all the tributes to Stephanie. She really was loved by so many! How wonderful that so many journalists got their start because she believed in them. Love and hugs to all of you.

Stephanie was a wonderful colleague and great "listening ear" when I worked with Gray Television. She was the person you could bounce ideas off of and she always was willing to help a fellow News Director. I am so sad she is gone. She was a great role model! I know both her family and her work family at WITN are hurting right now. I wish you all strength and comfort at this difficult time.
