I miss you Steve as much as ever. I ended up being Steve and Jay Jenson's go-between, Jay was Curator of 20th Century Art at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Now they are both gone. I keep losing my support system little by little. I feel fortunate to have such wonderful memories of both Jay for those lunches at HoMA in Honolulu, and with Steve, for those breakfasts, after meeting get-to-gathers, and impromptu gatherings at so many NCECA conferences over the years. You are not forgotten.

Arriving at the office this morning I stared at an eraser that is always on my desk. I too often over look it during the daily grind but when taking a moment to reflect, this ceramic eraser reminds of a thoughtful, caring, generous, kind hearted gentle giant. Looking at my desk today I was reminded to be a better man and to thank Steve again for his gifts that continue to give.

Steve Alpert was one of my dearest friends for two decades. My friendship with Steve started around 2000 at an NCECA conference and was cemented when he came to SA on a business trip- I picked him up at the airport, and immediately started boo-hooing on him as I had just found out I was pregnant (with William) and didn't know what I was going to do. The message left by Sue Austin should in fact be David Austin (son of Frank Austin). Please accept my sincere apologies for my error.

Fantastic but dry sense of humour. Whilst visiting Westminster Abbey with him and Steffie (late 1970's) he said that he liked British ice cream but it smelt funny - guess what, I smelt it and got a face full of cream! He was very generous and kind and I will always be grateful that he gave me a job when I was touring the US back in 1980 and found me a place to stay during that time. I remember he invited me to his home and I met up again with wonderful Steffie and their then, very young...

Will always remember is wonderful sense of humor and warmth and kind heart. Have a fond memory of him dressing up as an Arab sheik at a business dinner party at my parents house! Thanks for the great memories. He will be missed!

Dearest Steffie,
although I did not know you husband, I want to send my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. We will hold his spirit in the light.
