Fifty years ago, when we friends were all just starting out at Brown Brothers, I ran a car pool from the Columbia vicinity down to work. I piloted a '64 VW Beetle, the only car amongst us. My copilot was six-foot Charlie Foley, who went on to a great career as the top man at Estabrook. And scrunched into the back seat was impeccably dressed Steve, a true "man in a hurry," along with our back office employee, Pedro Salcedo, who later became a successful bond trader.
