Steve was one of the people (mostly friends of Bob Mezey or Ron Goodman) that I hung out with during an important transition in my life --60 years ago. I began reconnecting a few months ago but waited three weeks too long to get to Steve. Just resumed writing poems after a long lapse (took a different road). Reading his poems and seeing photos of him, I am saddened by his death and even more saddened for the loss of those many years.

These days the sunlight almost seems total.
A few men like Steve Berg stood between heaven and earth.
In the light of their shadows we others are
reading still
messages the dead keep on sending
these days of almost fatal sunlight.
