Broomhead Funeral Home - Riverton Obituary

Our loving husband, dad and grandpa, Stephen Harold Black, age 69, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2016 after a short battle with cancer.
Steve never met a stranger he didn't know! He enjoyed sharing stories with anyone that would listen. He loved talking about his many fishing trips (Hebgen & Quake Lake in West Yellowstone being his favorite spots), hiking adventures, camping expeditions and his Father's Day gift...his daughter. He was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan (that his Green Bay Packers fan daughter never held against him)!
He had a "job" for a short time playing a cowboy and reading cowboy poetry to customers at a local restaurant. But his favorite character to play was Santa Clause. He was THE BEST Santa Clause that will ever be known! He loved seeing the smile and joy on children's and adults faces at parties during the Christmas holiday!
He retired from the Granite School District where he was an aid for the special needs children at Hartvigsen. The love and bond he had for the students was unforgettable. He will be greatly missed by so many that had the pleasure of knowing him.
Special thank you to the Salt Lake Applegate Hospice Home Care & Hospice and St. Joseph Villa for taking care of him during his last days here on earth.
Stephen is survived by his wife Muerial K Black, daughter Stephanie (Justin) Cowan, & brother Vern E (Judy) Black and grandchildren
He is preceded in death by his parents, Vern L and Mary L Black and his brothers Michael and Danny Black.
An open house will be held Monday, June 20th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Broomhead Funeral Home 12600 So 2200 W., Riverton, UT.
In lieu of flowers, donations are graciously appreciated.

Ohhhh, I just found out!...he was such an amazing guy. I had the opportunity to work with him at harvigsen. He was also on my daughter bus as an assistant and she loved him to pieces. I am soo sorry for your loss.

I worked with Steve for many years at Hartvigsen. He was such a great guy. He has been "Santa Claus" at our house for the past 8-9 years. I will miss his calls at Christmas with his "ho,ho,ho Kathy What's up?" and then catching up on family things. Murial, Stephanie, and family I am so sorry for your loss. Hold his memory close to you heart and know how much he talked about all of you and loved you. Sincerely, Kathy McDermaid

I have known Steve, as "Santa Claus" for the past roughly 8 years. Our girls just adore that Santa and I know we will never forget singing songs with him as he jingled his bells away. Condolences to the family. Our family Christmas party will not be the same without him there. Much love.

We are so sadden by the loss of this fun loving man. We shared grandchildren and it was a joy to get to know him through their eyes. He loved his daughter Stephanie and her family so much! He spoke often of his adventures with his loving wife Muerial. Loved her family and the time they shared. We will miss his visits but we know he is found a fishing hole in heaven!

Stephanie, I'm so sorry that in just a few years you've lost both of your parents. It just doesn't seem fair. It breaks my heart for you. When I look at your dad's obituary picture, I had some memories of him. Not quite sure where or when but I do remember him when we were children. I know he had many friends and family to welcome him home and I also know that families can be together forever!

We're sorry to hear of Stephen's passing. We hope you are able to feel some peace knowing that Families are Forever. Sending all our love.Dashelle Holliday and Meagan Jensen(Jon Black's daughters)

Daddy, I am going to miss our fathers day/birthday breakfast dates! I'm going to miss the smack talking over our football teams! I'm going to miss your contagious laugh & smile! I'm just going to miss YOU! I'm sure your reunion in heaven was so amazing! Tell grandma, grandpa, Mike and Danny hello and give my mom a big hug from me! Love you much! HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

Well Cuz I will miss you giving me crap about my Raiders, say hi to your Mom and Dad for me, I will always remember the Christmas party's with the family, and all your jokes. Gods speed brother. You will always be in my heart.
