Not sure what to say?

Steve, was one of my dear friends while we attended college in La Crosse and after when we were room mates in Waukesha after graduated. Steve always impressed me with his attitude and his humor about life. Knowing and living with Steve during my earlier years, our 20's / 30's were always great. He was a great person, father, dad and human being. I am so sorry to hear and learn of his passing. He will always be remembered fondly. Steve had a positive influence on so many people in his life....

Dear Carpenter Family, I wanted to express my deepest sympathies for your loss. I knew Steve well from playing against him and Dave many times with my partner, Mike Rocheleau (and to my best recollection having lost most of those matches!) . I remember him best as a total gentleman and sportsman, who was highly competitive but always fair. He was a very good man. I hope you will find comfort in knowing others cared about Steve so much. With Deepest Sympathies and Prayers, Larry Cardassi, W....

I am truly sorry for your loss. I was fortunate to be a tennis player at the same time as Steve. I enjoyed playing both with and against him. Win or lose he was the same great person and am sure he was with all the people he knew. he will be missed

My thoughts are with all of you. I got to know Steven in the ALS clinic and in the pulmonary clinic and it was such a joy to see him. He always had a smile on his face. He will be missed, but no forgotten.
Take care. --Marlette( respiratory therapist at Froedtert)

Mr. Carpenter was my gym teacher many years ago at Hawthorne Elementary school in Waukesha, and while I cannot say physical education was my favorite class, he was a decent teacher and was popular among several students. He occasionally had some positive comments to say, and always had a positive attitude. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Carpenter Family at this time while they are coping with their unfathomable loss. Steve Carpenter was a good man, and his loss will be surely felt...

Dear Carpenter Family,
Our thoughts & prayers are with you. Our families' friendship goes back so far, to times shared in the old neighborhood and St. Mary's. May your hearts be filled with happy memories of Steve and lightened by knowing his peace today. Fondly, Mel

Dear Carpenter family-

I was lucky to have Mr. Carpenter as a phy ed teacher at Lowell in the 90's. Aside from having gym class with him as a young adult, we’ve also had a unique connection in that my life has significantly changed when my father was diagnosed with ALS as well.
While I know all too well how this disease can be devastating, I had the opportunity to meet up with Mr. Carpenter at his ALS benefit in March 2009. Ironically, it didn’t seem like he was thinking about...

Dear Andrew, Rachel and Carpenter
Family,
I am so sorry for your loss.
I would like to share a story
about what kind of man your father
was.
Last month, at my father-in-law's
funeral, a man walked up to us.
The man, who was obviously quite
ill, was Steve Carpenter. Steve
was no longer able to talk. In
his hands he held up a child's
draw and erase board. On the board
he had written, "I loved Uncle Rollie."
This man who was...
