Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home Obituary

Stephen R. Charney, 73, Dalton, Pa died unexpectedly at his home on October 19.

Born in Newark, New Jersey he was the son of the late Ralph and Pearl Gutowski Charney.  Stephen graduated from West Genesee High School, Camillus, Ny and attended the First “Computer Programming School” in Syracuse, NY.

He retired as a systems analyst with Metropolitan Life.  A self-described “Old Hippie”, Steve enjoyed all types of music, with his favorite being Pink Floyd. Gardening and working in his yard were his favorite relaxation. He was a good man with lifelong friends and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his sister, Patti Ann Davis and her husband, Albert, Dalton; a brother, Robert Charney and his wife, Betsy, Clarks Summit; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

We love you brother. Happy Trails.

Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday from 2 - 5 pm at the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, PA.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.

Not sure what to say?

Bob, Betsy and Charney family I am so sorry for your loss. I will always cherish my memories growing up and hanging out at the Charney house with our group. Sitting at the kitchen table and talking with Pearl. I remember Steve teaching me how to wax a car correctly while he waxed his white Mercury Monterey for senior ball. Remembering special memories will help in the healing process. Just a great, nice guy, gone way too soon.

This was a shock and so unexpected. Steve was a good friend, and we go back a long way.
From working at MetLife, to touring Paris and attending Floyd concerts, the memories will certainly
be carried forward for a long time. He was a kind and gentle soul that is gone too soon.
They say time heals all wounds, but this one will take a while. RIP Steve. It was quite a ride. "How I wish, wish you were here".

Steve was such a gentle soul I’m so sorry for your heartache! XO Sally and Jack

To Bob and Besty and family of Stephan. It is will deep sadness that I send you my sincere condolences for loss of a dear friend for many years. I will always remember his kindness, all the "happenings", and special times with your family. He helped me start my first garden! I will always love him and remember his joy. Be at peace dear friend. You are missed, but I shall be thinking of your happy smile.

Steve - you are my brother and always will be. You went too soon. My heart is very sad and will be for quite some time. We were roommates 50 years ago and will be again. Love you for ever. Save a seat for me - Richard Madden - one of Pearl's boys.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.
