Not sure what to say?

I did not know Captain Cleal had passed away. I worked under him at NMPC 42 the Submarine assignment shop in Arlington, VA/Washington DC. I was the senior NCO in that office and was working on completing my degree (which I was able to do). He wrote one of my recommendations both for college and for a Commissioning program. I had the deepest respect for him as a General Submarine Officer (Non Nuke) and for his achievements. May God grant him eternal rest & peace.

I proudly served with Stephen back in the mid 1970's on board the Nuclear Submarine USS Lewis & Clark SSBN-644 Blue. Stephen was a Lieutenant at the time and was the Weapons Officer. What a great guy & a wonderful inspiration to us younger guys. He was always up and never without a kind word and a smile. It was the best of times. He is greatly missed by his shipmates. Rest in Peace my friend.

Dottie

My deepest sympathy. I knew Steve when he and I were on the Hamilton. We also past in various other commands. As always he had that big smile the time we meet in about 92.

You will cherish the memories you shared -- all the drives with "your chauffer" -- all the days of your life. You were a great couple! You are in our thoughts and prayers!

Dottie, my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family. You and Steve were favorite people, and are missed every day. I think of you often, and am so grateful for the years we shared at SRA. Those are wonderful memories. With love and hugs to you, Janet Golden

Steve was a splendid officer and a fine shipmate. Fair winds and a following sea.
