Not sure what to say?

A long time friend of Steve's, I only learned of his passing a couple of days ago. I feel devastated by his loss, even though I had not seen him for a few years. Please accept my deepest condolences. I will always have only the fondest of memories of him!

So sad to hear of Steve's passing. I had the frustration of playing against his talent while I was at WRA, the pleasure to make friends when he hosted me as a recruit at Harvard, and the chance to play against him again at Princeton. He was a class act, a real competitor and a good man. So sad to say goodbye.

Hey Eilers Family,
Just heard the news, I am so sorry. I always looked up to Steve...figuratively and literally. He used to flatten me when he was on Varsity Football at US and I was on JV. He would block me into the ground and while his facemask was pressing against mine and I could barely breathe he would say, "hey Billy, you alright?" I always felt he was looking out for me.

Big hugs to you all.

My deepest sympathy to the Eilers family. I knew Steve from New Jersey and have nothing but good thoughts of him. He was a rare and wonderful friend. He spoke often of his family and Clairbear. He will be missed.

The Evarts family sends our deepest condolences to the Eilers family and relatives. I attended University School with Steve for 1 year, and later my younger brother Mike joined Steve at University School. Steve, Mike and I wrestled during holiday breaks, and Steve and I both competed at the Prep Nationals Wrestling Tournament in 1984. We ran into each other during college at rival schools (Harvard vs Yale), but then became classmates again at Kellogg. Miss you buddy.

We send our deepest sympathy to all the EilersAllie, Stu, Lisa and Claire. May your joyful memories of Steve bring you comfort. And may he rest in peace.

With love from Joan and Merv Litzow
