I first met Steve as an eye patient many years ago. It was obvious then what a kind and compassionate man he was. I know he will be missed by many people, and I know many join me in sending prayers and condolences to Virginia and the family.

Dearest Elgin Family,
I was sorry to hear Dr. Elgin had passed away. I have fond memories of him. I recall a nice talk on the beach about history and family and will always remember the excellent care our family got when he was our eye doctor. My thoughts are with all of you.

I had the honor of knowing and working with Dr. Elgin in the OR at Sibley for many years. He was a kind and gentle man and wonderful physician. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
