Not sure what to say?

I was shocked and saddened to read in the World Bank 1818 Society Bulletin that Steve had passed away. He was my Division Chief when I worked on Brazil. Although I saw him on only a few occasions after he and (later) I retired from the Bank, I still treasure the memories of our times together: his splendid sense of humor, his sharp mind, and his goodwill and respect for others. When I transferred from the Brazil Department to another part of the Bank, I felt greatly honored that he wrote a...

I was so glad to have had the opportunity to talk with Steve and to meet Ronie at the 50th Haverford Reunion. At Haverford, Steve was a young man of purpose and learning, with a sense of humor that helped me keep going. He pursued his interests throughout his life, with family, friends and colleagues, a good and resourceful man.

After the four years we spent together at Haverford, it was always a pleasure to see Steve at Reunions, including our 50th two months before he passed away. So great to read his quotes in the 1963 Record, and in our 50th Reunion Yearbook. Rest in Peace, Classmate, and may God bless your family.

Molly and I were so sorry to hear about Steve's passing. He was so full of life! We enjoyed talking to you at our 50th college reunion and were looking forward to seeing you both when you visited your son. Please do call us when you come.

Steve -- it showed such courage and grace for you to come to the class reunion and chat and laugh, with death so close by. I will also cherish the canoe manual you left me and insisted on signing. You must have struggled against time to finish it -- and won.

We shared a room together for a year and you taught me how to laugh at life's ironies, and how to treat others with consideration and respect. Your mind was amazing: I would name a town or city anywhere in the world and you...

I roomed with Steve during our first year in college, which for both of us, as is the case for most folks, was an extremely formative one. After graduation, our lives took different paths, and we had only minimal contact and communication. But we reconnected three months ago at the 50th reunion of our college class. Had I not otherwise known that Steve was battling pancreatic cancer, I would never have suspected it. At the reunion, he struck me as even more energetic, enthusiastic, and...

Rest in peace, Steve You fought the good fight and lived life to the fullest.

Met Steve briefly at Dee's wedding, what a great witty man, so full of life and joy. Prayers and blessings to Ronie and family. Marita Mendoza

Steve's energy, organizational expertise, and inquisitive spirit live on, and he is an inspiration to many. His excellent book will be used for trip planning for many years. His leadership in planning the Thursday Paddlers Group made for successful trips and great adventures, even though it occasionally was akin to trying to herd cats of the wild variety. Wishing peace and love to the family.
