O'Brien Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services - South Hadley Obituary

Stephen Francis Farias, 70, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was called to God while surrounded by his beloved wife and sons.

Born on June 8, 1955, in Concord, Massachusetts, Steve was the son of the late Gilbert Farias and Eva (Ducas) Farias of Fall River. He was raised in Chicopee, where he graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School in 1975.

A gifted tradesman with an artist’s eye, Steve had a remarkable talent for his craft and a keen attention to detail. His work reflected both skill and creativity. He will be remembered not only for his craftsmanship but also for his humor, generosity, and deep love for life.

Steve had a warmth and charm that made him instantly likable. His sense of humor, quick wit, and easygoing nature brought joy to all who knew him. Nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah, and their sons, Benjamin and Matthew Farias, all of Ludlow. He is also survived by his brothers: Robert Farias and his wife Darlene, Kevin Farias, John Farias, and David Farias, all of Chicopee; and Mickey Farias of Granby. His sisters: Cheryl Farias and Theresa Dias (husband John) of Ludlow, and Sharon Prescott of Leesburg, Florida and his father-in-law Harvey Cook of South Hadley. He was predeceased by his sister, Lynn DeMarco of South Hadley.

In addition, Steve leaves behind his sister-in-law Donna Ewart (husband Bill) of Edgartown, and brothers-in-law, Thomas Cook (wife Lynn) of South Hadley, and James and Tammy Cook of Halifax, Vermont. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his family's wishes, funeral arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Steve’s memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Steve's life was one of kindness, humor, and heart. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
