Curran-Jones Funeral Home - West Springfield Obituary

Stephen Robert Hoey, 60, of Westfield, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2018, with his loving family by his side. Steve was born on November 7, 1957, son of Margaret Hoey (Kiniry) and the late Richard Hoey, Sr. He graduated from West Springfield High School in 1976 and married his high school sweetheart, Susan (Scarfo) on August 30, 1980. While there were many noteworthy moments throughout Steve’s life, it was the simple things that brought him happiness, like meaningful conversation and connecting with people from all walks of life. An avid “foodie” and entertainer, Steve loved to put on the most beautiful spreads for his family and friends. What a sight it was to see Steve julienne vegetables, or to witness the preparation of his signature dishes, beef wellington and chicken francaise. When Steve wasn’t cooking in his kitchen, he was on the road selling kitchens. Steve was dedicated to his profession, a successful, self-employed, independent manufacturer’s rep for the kitchen cabinet business. Steve’s heart belonged to his family and loved ones. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan (Scarfo); two daughters with whom he had the tightest bond, Kristen Allard, Stephanie Harris and her husband Andrew; brothers Richard Hoey, Jr. and his wife Cheryl; and Glenn Hoey and his wife, Michele; his loving, devoted mother, Margaret Hoey; several dearly loved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is reunited with his father, Richard Hoey, Sr. and his cherished dog, Sam. In the final chapter of his life, Steve was Papa to his adoring grandchildren, Jack and Lyla Harris, and Cameron and Cole Allard. With them he enjoyed vacations, trips to the Hobby Shop, but most importantly, simply caring for, loving and guiding them. His children and grandchildren were his whole world and he fought valiantly to be with them for as long as he could. His gentle spirit lives on through them. The funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home, Thursday at Noon, followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery. Calling Hours are Wednesday 4-7pm. For more details please visit curranjones.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bedford Foundation, 58 Bail Wey Drive, Westfield, MA 01085.St

Not sure what to say?

Rick & family;
It is the Greek Orthodox tradition to light a candle in Church on Sunday and say a prayer. The flame and smoke from the candle symbolically carries the prayer to heaven. Today my prayer was for Steve and all the family. May his memory be eternal.
With Love

Steve-
You will never ever be forgotten. You were a class act and did all with perfection. I will never ever forget our belly laughs and how we saw the world through the same glasses.

Come visit us from heaven. I know its paradise there. Send us signs. I know you will.

My condolences to you all!! Steve will definitely be very much missed. He was a great friend to me and never judged me and always gave great advice as a father I didn't have. R.I.P Steve!! You'll never be forgotten, God bless and love you my friend!! See you one day.. sleep well and say hi to Sam for me.

We met across the deli counter a handful of times. The conversations were always heartfelt. It was a privilege to have known such a gentle soul. May his loved ones find comfort during this time of sadness.

Dear Sue & Family,

With deepest sympathy. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
