Helped the Good Times Roll

The Pied Piper's allure was so strong that whenever he went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, grown men clambered into a closet, trying to resist his dare for a sixth shot of tequila. But that booming laugh, the one you heard in the trading room of Fiduciary Trust before you saw him, beckoned: Stephen Joseph, who had a faint Trinidadian accent and the party-with-me magnetism of a world-class barkeep, could not be denied.

Even when he and his wife, Gillian, moved to Franklin Park, N.J., from Brooklyn, private time was rare with Mr. Joseph, 39, who had started as a messenger with a high school education and worked up to operations officer. The party followed him everywhere: 14 friends would arrive at their house for a barbecue; at restaurants, he would introduce Mrs. Joseph to all the diners he had met while she was in the ladies' room.

There was one Pied Piper whom Mr. Joseph himself found irresistible: his long- awaited child, Tristan Anthony. He had already taken Tristan, 2, to Disney World and to a Nets game, sat his son on his lap and driven around the block. "If you do all this now, what will you do when he's older?" Mrs. Joseph would ask. Mr. Joseph would just smile.

Not sure what to say?

Stephen, we will NEVER, EVER forget. Thinking of you and your family today as we honor your memory. I always remember your infectious laugh that could light up any room. Rest in Peace, Stephen.

Remembering you and your family on this day. Rest in Peace, Stephen.

Stephen, I’m here with my family again, thinking of you and your family on this day. Rest in Peace my friend.

Honoring YOU, Stephen Joseph, and the many lives that were lost. This day never gets easy and pray that we never forget how you made us all laugh. Gillian and Tristan, pray that you are doing well and that you are enjoying life. Tristan must be 24 or 25 now, same age of our son who turned 24 this year. Big hugs and know your Franklin Park, NJ neighbors think of you always.

Mark and Amy visited the memorial this week and sent me photos of your name on a rainy Manhattan day. I can’t believe it’s been more than 21 years and we’ve been robbed of a lifetime of friendship together. I think of you and Gillian and Tristian all the time and wonder what our lives would be like with you still here. I miss you. I miss your prank calls to my work phone. I miss all the times we never got to spend together. You are still missed and loved and remembered.

21 years have gone by now. Thinking of you and your family at this time my friend.

We all pause TODAY to remember your wonderful spirit and loving heart. May you continue to rest in heavenly peace. Gillian and Tristian extending an endless, heartfelt hug. May you know that so many continue to keep you in our prayers. the Browns, Treg & Pamela
