Not sure what to say?

Stephen was such a thoughtful and intellectual teacher of English literature. I still have some of my essays with his notes in the margins, often in brown ink. Oh how I valued his reflections and observations that helped me to become a better writer. Please accept my condolences.

Barbara and family. First of all, I am sorry this is so late. I have been living outside of Portland and I just saw this. I was telling my wife about what a great teacher I had back at Lewis and Clark and I decided to google Steve to see where he was and perhaps contact him and I saw this.

My sincerest condolences.

I knew Steve from taking a couple of literature classes from him at Lewis in Clark in the late 70's. While I was not a English major, my father was an English...

Barbara, this is a person out of your past, when our mothers, Ida Krause and Emma were friends (Herman too!) I remember your folks with such fondness when we'd come into Portland to spend the day and you'd come running up to greet us in your pristine white dress, such a cutie. through the years about your wonderful marriage to Stephen. I'm sorry our families lost touch and I never got to meet him. He apparently was a wonderful family man. My condolences to you all.

Steve Knox was such a great friend to our family, so wonderfully present with his warm sensitivity, wit and fervency for the truth of the moment. He was there in recent years to support us in so many meaningful ways when his friend and my Dad was in his last months, and I will never forget that kindness and the depth of his understanding. His laughter and amazement with the twists and turns of life were a delight, and his ability to walk that line linking the contradictions in emotional and...

Barbara: It has been over 30 years. have thought of you, Steve,
the girls and jake often. Steve and I were so different , yet so
much in common. Teaching the girls to drive was my last great
memory. God bless. gary Lewis

Barbara -

I met Steve as a freshman in 1990, and had the honor of being part of his learning circle for courses on women writers, the Romantics, and several other classes. He was my favorite English professor at Lewis and Clark. I remember so clearly feeling affirmed in his presence, challenged by his ideas, and grateful for the kind words. Oh how I remember the blue essay books we would pull out for finals, in which we sought to express in words our thoughts. I even remember some of...

With sympathy wishing you many peace filled memories 2nd Thessalonians 3:16 "Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace constantly in every way. May the Lord be with all of you."

Barbara: Payers, love, and condolences to you and your family. I have such positive memories of Steve and wasn't aware until now that I had the privilege of being in some of his first classes at L&C. Steve was both mentor and friend. And I will always be thankful for your graciousness that allowed us to buy 2918 SE Main in 1970.i will attend the celebration of Steve's life on 11/18. May Peace be with you.

I had Steve for my Senior Seminar (Thesis) class in 1994. Nothing but fond memories of him. I count him and the rest of the Lewis and Clark English Department for helping my intellect and creativity grow. My thoughts are with his extended family.
