Dear Sheryl, Andrew and Katherine,
I worked with Steve for a while at the Centre Daily Times in State College, Pa. I remember his dry, low-key sense of humor and his skill at copy editing. I'm deeply sorry to hear of your loss, and offer my condolences to you and his extended family.

Sheryl:
Steve (Bopper) was my wonderful best friend at Ohio University. We roomed together for 3.5 years. Steve was so good to me and the most generous person I have ever met. I am a lucky person to have known Steve.
God Bless,

Sheryl:
I was a suite-mate of Steve's at Ohio University. I have always cherished the memories of Steve, the laughs we shared, the great times, and the special place we shared in our early lives. He was always a sincere, and warm person, a person you just knew would leave the world a better place.
God Bless.

Sheryl,
Steve and I were friends at Ohio University. We lived in the same dormitories where there was a group of us that got along great and shared a lot of laughs and good times together. We were a family in that sense and Steve was right there in the middle of it. We called him Bop or Bopper, although I can't really remember why! A lot of us had silly nicknames back then. He was a truly nice person. Someone who you were always happy to see and someone who was a pleasure to talk...

Sheryl and family,
Steve and I were at Ohio U together from 1979 to 1983 and I cherish the memories of hanging out in the dorm and working at the student newspaper. Actually, he was the first person I met there. We started talking baseball and hit it off right away!
While I lost touch with him until very recently, I'm not at all surprised that he became the ultimate family man and journalist who I have been reading about here.
I had the good fortune to trade...

Sheryl ... it was an honor and privilege to work the last 12 years with Steve at the PD. He was excellent at his job -- thorough, disciplined and efficient -- but he was far better as a human being. There aren't that many truly "decent" folks around any more ... and certainly not that many in a job where you are required to find other's faults/errors. But he was always supportive and good-natured in a business that can be cynical and mean-spirited. He will be greatly missed as an editor, and...
