Not sure what to say?

Dear Carol & Kids,

I can not express how sorry I am for your loss. Steve was just one of those exemplary human beings. I worked with him at Westwind and he was kind enough to help my son and I integrate into the Carlsbad community having moved here from Arizona. He was a true friend and a great inspiration to me. He was truly a man of great wit and intelligence. He was so proud of his family and spoke of you always. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear La Breche Family, I was lucky enough to have known Steve for a brief time when we worked together at the Westwind Group. I was the receptionist there. Steve "La Breechy" as I liked to call him, would always make a point of stopping by the front desk to say hello or to tell me a cheerful story, useually about his wife and children, or some goofy joke he picked up in one of his confrence calls. He had an amazing way of putting a smile on your face and always went out of his way to do so....

Dear LaBreche Family,

I had the pleasure to work with Steve for several years while he was general counsel at Westwind. I am one of the attorneys at Krass Monroe, and during a several year period, myself and others worked with Steve on many projects and were blessed to get to know him. I was also fortunate to be able to stay in contact with Steve after he left Westwind and to consider him a friend. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to work with Steve who was a very...

Carol,

We were so sorry when we heard the news about Steve. I did not know him well but I kept up with you guys through Mom. Please know our deepest sympathies are with all of your family. I am glad Mom came out to California to be with all of you. Mom told me how wonderful your kids are. I just talked to Robin on Thursday and she said you had a great support through your friends. Just know all of you are in our prayers.

Dear LaBreche Family: I first met Steve when he became inhouse counsel for the retaining wall company. Our firm had handled some of their matters previously so I was designated to work with Steve in the transition. What a gift! I learned so much from him both as a lawyer and as a person. He was principled, had great insight and intelligence, and his sense of humor was delightful. What a wonderful world this would be if there were more Steve LaBreches. I am just greatful I met him.

Dear LaBreche Family,

I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear about Steve. I attended Holy Name High School with him and unfortunately was able to see him only once since we graduated. It was at a class reunion many years ago.

Steve was a great person and I am privileged and lucky to have known him. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Bob Payne

Dear Carol, Claire, Olivia, & Bryan,
A long time ago, I went to high school with the nicest guy. He was nice in a time when it wasn't cool to be nice. But he was nice to me. We got to see him at class reunions over the years, but not nearly enough. The last time was in August, 2004. Carol, all his classmates got to meet you then, and hear about your wonderful family. Steve looked so happy, and it was obvious how much he loved his family, and how proud of you he was.
I just want...

Carol & family,
I wanted to tell you how much Steve meant to me even though I have not seen or spoken to him or you in a long time. I am so fortunate to have not only been his employee but also his friend. I remember, with much fondness, my years of working so closely with him in Shreveport, Louisiana. That was one of the best decisions that I have ever made to go to work for him. He was wonderfully entertaining, never dull, always laughing, had a fierce temper (at times) that abated...
