Steve was one of my best friends and he volunteered to come back to Iraq because he wanted to work with me and my men. It really surprised me the day he walked into my office after seeing him go home to Tn months prior. It has hurt me so much to lose such a great person and friend for literally no reason. Except Friendship. I cried when I traveled over the Stephen Maddies Memorial Bridge outside of Nashville. He was such a great person.

Stephen was one of my adopted Soldiers. Whenever we got a chance to talk he was joking around. He always was talking about his kids and wife and how happy he will be to see them again soon. You are dearly missed. RIP Stephen
