Multitalented Hands

His hands. He could pretty much do anything with his hands. Build anything. Fix anything. Cook anything.

Stephen F. Masi had gifted hands and the imagination to put them to innumerable good uses. "I don't know where he got it from," his wife, Joan, said. "He could just figure out how to do anything with his hands."

He did everything around the house. She, in turn, watched and learned from him, and they became a team. She would install a light fixture and put up wallpaper right alongside him.

Mr. Masi, 55, a senior service technician at Cantor Fitzgerald, lived in Selden, on Long Island, with his wife and their son, Stephen, 18. Among other things, he and his wife were both very much into cooking. He liked to watch cooking shows, and they found it fun to go out to dinner and, when they enjoyed a dish, to go home and try to figure out how to prepare it. And they invented their own recipes, dozens of them: lots of soup, a tasty chicken-and-tomatoes dish and plenty of desserts.

There were some missteps, dishes they concocted that after one tasting they swore they would never make again, but the good ones far overwhelmed the errant ones.

"He loved to entertain," Mrs. Masi said. "He always made sure there was tons and tons of food." Of course. He was using his hands.

Not sure what to say?

Today we visited ground zero from Canada and Mr. Masi's name caught our attention as there was a white rose beside his name. Condolences to his family and hope they are ok. We will never forget what happened that terrible, terrible day 23 years ago.

My husband, Martin Ingianni, knew Steve as his boss at the phone company and as a beloved friend. On the 10th anniversary, Marty added his remembrance to Steve below. Marty passed away 2 years ago but I know he would want me to add his name to Steve's memorial on this 19th anniversary. May they both rest in peace. Nikki Ingianni

In Memory,
Stephen Frank Masi and his family

I live in Florida and am just quietly watching a YouTube video of the 9/11 Memorial. Its just a video of a walking tour through Lower Manhattan. I caught Stephens name as the camera panned over the fountains and at that moment felt a need to pray for him and his family. I did not know him but Im sure he was a wonderful man. God bless you all.

I offer my condolences to Stephen's family, may he rest In peace.

I recently received an American flag that was gifted to me by my cousin Richard and Yvonne in honor of Stephen F. Masi. My cousins attended a Memorial Service in North Tonawanda NY, a small city near Buffalo NY. We have the flag displayed on a stand in our lanai. On an additonal note, we were vacationing in New York City on September 11th - and will forever remember how supportive and caring New Yorkers are. Bless you all.

I did not know your husband but he and I share the same last name...Masi. My name is Alfred Masi from New Haven, CT. Just wanted to express my regrets to you and your family. God Bless. AL.

You may not know me but that's okay. I know you. I'm your niece. I recently just found out about you and I'm very sad that I never got the chance to meet you. I can't wait to meet you in Heaven! Prayers...
