Steve Mongeon, 51, lost his battle with cancer while surrounded by family on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at St. Gabriel's Community. Funeral service and burial will take place in Rolette, ND at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wednesday, December 21 at 11:00am with a burial at the cemetery following the service. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral service on Wednesday. Steve was born September 12, 1965 to Dennis and Carol (Myrum) Mongeon. He lived in Mandan his whole life. Steve was a huge sports fan but was an even bigger fan of professional wrestling. He especially enjoyed spending time with family. Steve fought courageously while battling two diseases for most of his life. He never let either of them break his spirit. Throughout his life, Steve remained positive unless you were close to Steve, you would never know of these challenges. Steve always had the ability to look at the positives and not let the disease break his spirit. Even in his last few months when he was moved into hospice care, he never complained, he never asked why, he just fought and stayed positive and faithful. Steve's faith along with the support his family brought comfort throughout this difficult battle. The Mongeon family would like to thank all family and friends for their support of Steve throughout his life. We also thank the incredible staff at CHI St. Alexus Health Hospice Care, Bismarck Cancer Center, and St. Gabriel's Community. We are forever grateful for the care you provided with both love and professionalism. Steve will be missed by all his family especially his father, Dennis Mongeon; brothers, Gerry (Lois) Mongeon, Mandan, Andy (Karin) Mongeon, Bismarck, Tom (Carissa) Mongeon, Mandan; nieces and nephews, Justin (Heather), Emory, Tyler, Sydnie, Cortnie, Kate, Jenna, Ryleigh, Mariah, and Brady. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Carol (Myrum) Mongeon. In lieu of flower, please make donations to the Bismarck Cancer Center in Steve's honor.

Thoughts and prayers to the family. Have fond memories of playing kick the can in the neighborhood with Steve and his brothers. Sorry Steve had such a tough life, isn't fair, but sounds like Steve was strong and accepted what God gave him.

Andy, My deepest condolences in the loss of your brother. Wishing you comfort in the memories you will forever cherish. (The name Mongeon was familiar to me but I didn't realize that your family is from Rolette--I'm originally a Woodchuck :-) )
