Mike, it's hard to believe that it's almost six years since you left us, compañero. I miss you just as much as did when I first left a condolence message February 26, 2016. Barbara, you continue in my thoughts, my heart, and my prayers.

When I think of Mike, I want to plant a tree, ride a bicycle or walk rather than drive to a destination, or simply pick up dropped or discarded things that distract from the beauty and appearance of our public places. His love of the planet and his passion to protect it continue to inspire me.

Mike with Juvencio and Will June 1962 Sandona Narino
I recently learned of Mike's death in email from Peter Kapp. Peter and I were Peace Corps Volunteers (1962-64) in the village of Sandona Narino Colombia. We worked together in "community develpment" and shared the same experience of village life with wonderful people, riding our horses to homes and small farms in the region and actively supporting "Accion Comunal" - Colombia's program for organizing villagers for self-help projects. We organized several groups to build schools, make their own...

Oh, my heavens! I was in the process of looking up his phone #, because I had a question about bicycle paths in St. Louis, and he always was in-the-know. I moved to Massachusetts last year, so hadn't heard the news. Mike was one of those very kind (& knowledgeable) people that you assumed (hoped?) would be in this world forever (or at least as long as I would be). I am so sad to learn of his passing, and send condolences to Barbara, all his family and friends.

Barb: I recently learned that Mike passed away. I am so sorry. No one can know another person's feelings at this kind of loss but having lost Laurie fairly recently, I know you will get through this and knowing you, with much grace. You were wonderful to reach out to me when that happened and I am thinking of you now. It was always delightful to see Mike at my CityArchRiver meetings that last few years. He was obviously well regarded and appreciated. He leaves a wonderful legacy.
