Stephen Nave Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2016.

Stephen Anthony Nave, 54, passed away on March 18, 2016. He was the adored husband of Agrippina (“Pinita”) Maberry-Nave. They shared nine wonderful years together.

Born in San Francisco, California, he was the son of Robin P. Nave and Linda N. Nave-Corino (Scatena). He graduated from Redwood High School in Larkspur, California and briefly attended the College of Marin where he played on their football team. Steve served 23 years in the U.S. Navy, with 18 as a Navy SEAL. He was also a Navy SEAL Instructor in the Naval Special Warfare Physical Training Center in Coronado, California and trained the men in BUD/S who would go on to become SEALs. Steve understood what it meant to take people to the edge and beyond, testing their physical strength and endurance, as well as increasing their mental toughness. Based out of his unique training facility, Combat Athlete Training Systems (CATS), he traveled globally, conducting education, certifications, and training using his unique tools and training methodologies. Concurrent to his physical training and coaching, he worked protecting the oceans commercial vessels from piracy threats across most of the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Red Sea.

A truly multi-faceted man, Steve’s philosophy was simple:

“You must believe that winning/goal attainment/mission accomplishment is possible. As long as you truly believe that you can reach your goals and objectives, you will. That belief in yourself and abilities is real. Tangible. It’s that belief that creates the passion that will drive you to willingly pay the price for your success.”

Steve will always be remembered for his integrity, dedication, and loyalty. But most importantly, his ability to bring out the best in people.

Steve is survived by his wife Pinita Maberry-Nave; Linda Nave-Corino, his mother; Michele Corino his step-father; step-brothers: Jeffrey Corino and his wife, Linda; Glenn Corino; and Mark Corino, and his sons Nicholas and Jacob; uncle Gino Scatena and wife, Carol; uncle Raymond Isola and wife Susan Lyons; cousin Michael Scatena, his wife Tiffany, sons Devon and Luca; and cousin Chris Scatena, his wife Melissa, and children Olivia and Brady; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robin Nave.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese of Carmel Catholic Church, 4355 Del Mar Trails Road, San Diego, CA 92130.

Condolences to the ones who knew him and loved him best. I never saw Steve as an adult but remember him as a teenager. Back then he was a good natured young man who appreciated a good joke and motorcycles of all kinds. RIP Steve from an old HS team mate.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to
Steve's family. I worked with him at BUD/S. He was an exceptional instructor - hard but smart, teaching and mentoring daily, showing the men how to really be SEALs. He leaves behind a long list of trainees who will remember him fondly for what he taught and who he was.

My sincere condolences. Steve was my best friend during my time I lived in Hawaii. We shared a lot of great adventures together to include working on his corvette and surfing. We hit it off as two typical frogmen would. We lost touch with each other as he continued his superior career in the Teams and I as I continued into Naval aviation as a pilot. I regret that as our careers diverged that I did not make more of an effort to keep up with Steve. He truly was a great friend, always made me laugh, supremely intelligent, and driven to be successful. I will miss the memories we had.

My deepest condolences to you Pinita and to the rest of Steve's family. I was shocked to hear of your loss. I worked with Steve at Team Five and at the Naval Special Warfare Center during his active duty years. I had great respect for his discipline and professional demeanor as a SEAL, and his work ethic when it came to tuning his mind and body. I wish I had a fun and eventful story to pass about Steve, but in my experiences with him he was always just too consistent and too kind of and individual to ever have anything go poorly at work, when we worked together.

I don't know the circumstances of his passing, but I know that it is a terrible loss to all who's lives he's touched. An incredibly special and unique man who will be missed. I'll pray for your comfort.

Rest easy, Steve. Know that you made a world a better place for having been here.

On behalf of his classmates in BUD/S Class 130, I send our condolences to Steve's family.

Steve will be remembered fondly by all of us in Class 130 as a good man, a good Frogman, and a good Teammate.

May God grant fair winds and following seas to our Brother-in-Arms, and a double portion of His grace to all who knew Steve and grieve his passing.

This prayer is from a chaplain assigned to ST-1 years ago. Hoo-Yah, Steve
Stephen Hobbs, class 151

Dear Father in Heaven, if I may respectfully say so sometimes you are a strange
God. Though you love all mankind, it seems you have special predilections too. You
seem to love those men who can stand up alone who face impossible odds,
who
challenge
every bully and every tyrant ~
those
men who know the heat and
loneliness of a Calvary. Possibly you cherish
men of this stamp because you
recognize the
mark of your only son in them.
Since this unique group of men known
as the SEALs know Calvary and suffering, teach them now the mystery of the
resurrection ~ that they are indestructible, that they will live for
ever because of
their deep faith in you. And when they do come to heaven, may I respectfully warn
you, Dear Father, they also know how to celebrate. So please be ready for them
when they insert under your pearly gates.
Bless them, their devoted Families
and their Country on this glorious occasion.
We ask this through the merits of your Son, Christ Jesus the Lord, Amen."

I am very, very sorry for your loss; Steve was a true friend and Teammate of mine at SEAL Team 2, and he truly earned my respect and admiration. I know he is in a better place, with God, yet that is rarely enough condolence for his family. May God bless you all, and help you know what a fine Frogman he was. I will pray often for him. Amen

My heartfelt condolences to you Pinita. Haven't stopped thinking of you and Steve since I heard of his passing. Interesting how our conversations always ended with the ambition of doing some type of venture together. Glad to know he followed his heart in opening up the place he wanted to. Dear Nave family,
I am sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose a loved one, regardless if they have lived a full life. One thing I will say is that "WE" should be happy and allow our God to take his son into his care where he will forever be at peace. When you become sad just remember this; the love and laughter he shared with all of you will live in you forever. My sincerest condolences to you and your families. May God help you find peace and strength to get through this trying time. With all due respect.

My deepest condolences to Pinita and to Steve's family. I am a different man for knowing Steve, who taught me much about living life to the fullest. He never stopped challenging me to do more. Two things he said to me the day before he left us that I will never forget. "You need to believe you can do it!" and "It's a beautiful day, isn't it?" Semper Fi old pal!
