18 years ago Steve Powell hired me as the freshman basketball coach at McCaskey High School. Steve was a players coach who had one goal in mind which was to make McCaskey basketball a perennial power in this state. I must say that by the time I arrived he was well on his way. What I enjoyed most about coaching with Steve was that he loved basketball and more importantly he loved coaching the kids. He demanded the best from his players but at the same time protected them and worked hard...
