Steve was a giant in my life going back 50 years: a combination of a big brother, a political leader, a law professsor, a extraordinary raconteur, and a wonderful friend. What a great person. I am so sorry for all of our loss, but so greatful for his presence in my life.

I last interacted with Steve more than a decade ago, when he moved out of the Sacramento area. We had worked together as lawyers and became friends, though I was clearly the junior partner.
