Stephen "Steve" E. Skinner, age 60, beloved companion, brother, and nephew, passed away peacefully at his home, Monday, August 4, 2014. He was born in Manhattan, KS and was a resident of Alameda, NM. Steve was raised in Winnetka, IL and lived there until he graduated from New Trier High School. He then attended the University of New Mexico and remained in Albuquerque until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne and Joe Skinner; and his sister, Joanne Morgan. Not sure what to say?

Every time I drive past Alameda Greenhouse I think of you and all the fun memories that we had. Continue to rest in peace I will see you again one day.

10 years. Still see you smiling smacking ancient chewing gum in the middle of your forest. Miss you Steve.

Can't believe it's been 6 years since we losts Steve! i think of him every October 8 and every time I pass Alameda Greenhouse. He was a terrific human.

It’s been 6 years since Steve left this earth. So many times I’ve thought about him and the fun times we had together and the things we learned from each other. Much has changed at Alameda Green House since Steve’s passing but somehow I know he’s looking down and making everything grow from up above.

We didn't know Steve, but we were customers for over 10 years, and feel like we did know him, since he was always available for questions and always had the right answers. We have his trees in our yard, and always bought our veggies and flowers from his nursery every year--best tomatoes ever! As a native of the North Valley, I was glad to see a local business growing and doing well. He will be missed.

While it was upsetting to see Steve in such declining health, I'm so grateful to have stopped by Alameda earlier this summer and visit with him. We first met in the late '70s, both working at Loeper Nursery. Steve taught me so much about the business and about plants, fertilizing, plant diseases, etc., etc. So many of those things ("Fertilize on President's Day for a green lawn by St. Patrick's Day.")have stuck with me for decades and came rushing to the fore when I learned of his passing....

I will truly miss his smile and will miss the way he helped me for over 30 years, We both started our business's around the same time and were both a little green...But we both had a huge drive and a want to succeed in business. We became friends very fast, Will forever miss him dearly god bless him and his whole family and especially Kimberly his ole friend and landscape buddy
"Leo LaBarge"

Well, it's a sad day to be putting Steve to rest. I know his suffering has ended, and no doubt his spirit is free of the body that deserted him. So many great memories I shared with him will boost me down the road. He was really a special wit, no doubt much came from his dad Joe. The Skinner family will always hold a part of my heart for what I was able to share with them in years past. We don't forget Joe, Anne and Joann. Certainly, Jimmy carries on the family legacy with great pride. So...

To Steve's Family and Friends:
The memories I have will endure forever. Steve was a great friend, brilliant nurseryman, and compasionate person. I have had the pleasure of both buying Steve's plants and selling him mine. Our industry will truly miss Steve.
