1952 - 2013
Stephen Randall Summerford (Randy) January 2, 1952 - November 17, 2013 Randy (Age 61) was a kind and generous man (most of the time) and was blessed to be loved by so many family members and friends. He often said that he never expected to live past 40 or 50 so he was also blessed with some "bonus" years. He was the kind of friend you could call at 2 a.m. for anything. If you were stranded he would drive 5 hours to help you out, buy the parts you needed and help you get back on the road. Even when he was in pain and feeling awful, he would say he was "OK" and always thanked nurses and other hospital caregivers for everything from checking his oxygen level to drawing more blood. He continued to laugh and make jokes and especially loved to needle his sisters and wife and say things to shock his mother - then chuckle! Now he is pain-free and not struggling to breathe while climbing the tallest power pole around and playing with high-voltage electricity. Randy is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gail Summerford and her parents, his mother Nancy Clark, sisters and brothers-in-law Kathy and Joe Storment and Kim and Eric Barron and their families, many extended family members, dozens of friends including childhood friends known as "the boys" and critters Zinc (his favorite), Boron, and Tucker. No Services, as he requested since he hated funerals. He will be cremated and a family "non-funeral" will be held later to place his remains in what his wife Gail calls an "ash hole". Think of Randy during the next big lightening storm; he would like that. www.bakersfield.com/obits

Missing you, but happy to have many great memories. Finding comfort with Eskimos and Apaches!
"Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy." - Inspired by an Eskimo Legend
"May the rain wash away your worries.
May the breeze blow new strength into your being.
May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life." - Apache...

Randy was always a phone call away whenever the girls and I needed anything, and I miss him. Every time something breaks I think of him but now I call Gail - he would be proud of her!

For Memorial Day I flew your flag at the house, and have continued to send donations to Paralyzed Veterans of America to keep your “membership” current. Your new card is attached. I always admired how you very quietly gave to the PVA and to the Homeless Center fund for holiday meals . . . always generous, but never one to toot your own horn.
Instead of the original plan to get an “ash hole” for you, we thought maybe that was too confining and decided the river was a better choice. Earlier...

“Only people who are capable of loving strongly can also suffer great sorrow, but this same necessity of loving serves to counteract their grief and heals them.”
? Leo Tolstoy
Thinking of you and finding wonderful comforting quotes.
