Not sure what to say?

Gloria, I was out of town and just finished reading past Sunday Oregonians. I was saddened to read of Steve's death. What a gregarious man!! I am sorry to have missed the memorial gathering, as I am sure the anecdotals were memorably ripe with humor. I hope you are coping okay with the transitions, and I would love to hear from you.

Steve was one of the good guys.

One of the toughest parts of aging is losing your friends. We treasure the good times We shared with Steve. All the way from High School to post college. Many, Many outdoor grills, picnics, Boat trips on the Willamette/Columbia rivers. The Passing takes away a friend, comrade, and counselor.

I remember Steve fondly from my high school days. Steve and my sister Louise were an item as seniors at Lincoln High. I was but a freshman but remember Steve as he spent many an evening having dinner with our family. He soon became friends with the entire family. He taught my brother and I how to share a last piece of pie. He directed my brother to split the pie into two parts and for me to then choose first. I guess this launched his career in arbitration.
I recently had the good...

Sincere condolences to Gloria and the family. We will miss his "tales".

I had the pleasure of appearing in Judge Walker's court early in my career as a civil litigator - in a very contentious case. He was a joy to work with and "cooled things down" by making it painfully clear he wouldn't stand for that sort of thing - at least not from the lawyers. Later in my career I had the opportunity to serve on an arbitration panel with him. He kept things moving, and again fostered a collegial atmosphere. My idea of what a judge should be!

You will be missed. It was a joy to work with you.

I practiced criminal defense work for a number of years in the late '60s and into the late '80s. Steve toiled in the same vineyard. We spent many hours in the courthouse cafeteria drinking coffee and trading war stories. I did not have occasion to appear before him after he went on the bench but I'm certain he brought the same level head and good heart to the work.
