Not sure what to say?

Steve was just the best-as a mentor, colleague and friend. And ageless. For those who know Nantucket, a number of years ago we got together with the Wests and the Asthalter´s in Nantucket when our four children (now in their early 40s) were in their late teens. Steve was relatively recently retired. He began with them by saying "I bet you were at the Chicken Box last night". The children couldn´t believe one of their father´s partners was so knowing. We´ll miss you Steve.

Steve was a `larger than life´ person with broad interests, great love of life, abounding energy and always ready with interesting stories about everything from the complexities of investment companies to the intricacies of International tractors. He literally taught me everything I know about investment companies and made board service both serious business and great fun. He enriched many lives, something that I think he both enjoyed and took very seriously. Rest in peace, dear friend.

The obituary does not mention that Steve was descended from one of the earliest ministers in Pittsfield MA, also named Stephen West. Steve had an abiding sense of responsibility to the Berkshire community and landscape. He offered to those around him so much knowledge, advice, and humor. I will really miss him.

I had the great fortune to work with Steve over the years on various matters and always came away knowing a whole lot more than I did before and having had a very good time. Spending time with him was always a treat. A real gentleman and a fine human being.

Much love to all the family, we will miss Steve very much.

Wonderful, wonderful man, mentor and colleague. Will never forget the joy he gave our then small children riding in his on his tractor in Pittsfield, or the enthusiasm with which Steve approached any client´s problems. There were none like you, Steve.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of our neighbor Steve West! It has been nearly fifty years since we moved in "next door" to Steve and his wife Ann. During this period Steve was often a helpful guide as we dealt with the various struggles which a new home owner in a new town faces. He also enjoyed our small Christmas gatherings and always had interesting new information, complete with historical context, to discuss. Dick and Nina Dixon, Old Wood Road Bernardsville
