Stephen spent most of his Viet Nam deployment as a radarman in the Command Information Center, CIC, on the fantastic and historic CVS 33, that era´s Kearsarge. The USN always has a Kearsarge, beginning with a sailing ship. The one Stephen served on had picked up splashed-down astronauts in the earlier 1960´s on two occasions. He spent a very small time on the Mekong River in the ARL Askari, just before he returned stateside.
