Steve Edward Allen was born August 9, 1957 in of Mobile, Alabama; he was one of eleven children born to the late Isaiah and Margaret Allen. Steve peacefully made his transition from his earthly bound location to glory on June 2, 2022 in San Francisco, California after a short illness. He was proceeded in death by his father (Isaiah); mother (Margaret); brothers (Willie, James, Isaiah, Ellis and Robert); and a sister (Juanita). He gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church in Mobile Alabama.
Steve attended Toulminville High School where he graduated in 1975. He attended Tuskegee University where he majored in Business Administration and Management graduating in 1980. While at Tuskegee he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Lambda Epsilon Chapter on November 18, 1977. He formed an over 45-year friendship with the young men that he pledged with, the legendary Seven Southern Knights where he was the Legendary #4 ”Joe Blade” on his line and was the forever line PRESIDENT to his 6 brothers. For decades he was a mentor guiding young men as a service to his community. He worked with the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Sigma Iota Chapter in Oakland, California on the reclamation and retention committee where he helped his district to win second place in the 12th district. After college he moved back to Mobile, Ala where he worked in Retail Management for several years, before relocating to San Francisco, California where he worked for 40 plus years working with upper echelon clients as a personal stylist at Rochester Big and Tall Clothing Company, he `retired from the career he loved in 2021.
Steve better known as Steamboat aka Joe Blade, was a kind, loving, generous, genuine man, with a vibrant personality and was known to always be amongst the best dressed at any event. He was a great cook, he had the ability to prepare chicken so that it was never boring (except maybe to Travis), he considered himself a grill master and a crab boil expert and he took pride in preparing his famous prime rib which was his signature dish. He was always cooking and taking food to his family on the weekends and holidays. He was avid football and basketball fan, always rooting for the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors of course.
He was a very loving family man having shared his life with his fiancé Jennifer Henry for the last 7 years in Hayward, California. He was a devoted father of his beloved son Travis Allen. Steve was dedicated to his mother Margaret Allen and his entire family, always helping to guide and sustain his family in any circumstance. He is survived by his fiancé Jennifer Henry (Hayward, Ca), son Travis Allen (Hayward, Ca.), granddaughter Trinity Henry, Sisters - Martha Sims of Mobile, Alabama, Marguerite Howard of Hayward, California, Gloria Perkins of Atlanta, Georgia and Carmen Allen of East Windsor, New Jersey. He is also survived by a host of devoted nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family. He will be lovingly remembered by cousins, lifelong friends and his Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Brothers.
