Not sure what to say?

There was not much that Steve could not do! Cooking was one of his best............We would eat behind the Engine at 8's old house, the meal was past around, everyone took a share and started to eat. It was so good I asked if anyone wanted more, no one said anything so I dumped the rest on my plate. Everyone than said they would have liked to have more.............then someone said he married a Irish girl.....After that everyone would ask if I had enough after the first go around.

Thought of Steve the other day when a old Dodge van pulling a trailer drove down the street. He keep the trailer in the "kitchen" of old 8, we filled it with newspaper till full. The off going shift would get in the van and off we went to the paper recycler on Vega Ave. Steve would drive on the scale, pull away and we would unload it and then all of us would walk out the gate while Steve reweighted and got payed, that how we helped our house fund. Steve was a wonderful person! I met him through my firefighter Dad, Al Lacinski, after Steve lost his legs & I could relate as I am a one-legged woman amputee & I was very involved in the Three Trackers of Ohio handicapped ski club. I cried when he showed up to learn how to ski! Steve was instrumental in having firefighters volunteer for handicapped skiers at any of our clinic.
We had so much fun! With Jeanne and my Mom & Dad, too.
He always drove my Dad to the military funerals in...

When I was appointed to Engine 8 in Aug 1973 and placed on B shift with Lt. Bill Kane, Art Missig, Jim Fink and Steve it was a great thing. They looked after me and taught me to become a Firefighter, and Steve was some cook. They said I only ate every three days. They even asked if I would bowl on the team ( had to buy a ball, and it was a good time)
When Steve had his accident I could not get over his positive outlook. He stopped to see in Lutheran just before my back surgery...

My condolences to the Baker family. So sad to see another “old time Firefighter” passing. Rest in Heavenly Peace Mr. Baker.
