Steven "Steve" John Bruhn, age 67, of Vergas, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 23, 2017. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vergas, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at St. John's Lutheran Church with a prayer service to take place at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be made at Vergas Village Cemetery. Steve was born June 29th 1949 in Perham, MN to Cloudy and Jane (Hein) Bruhn. Steve graduated from Frazee High School in 1967 and entered the North Dakota Air Guard in August of that year. He was a member of the guard until 1975. Steve married Diane Schwandt on July 8th, 1972. The couple lived in Vergas while Steve farmed with his father. They were blessed with two children, Ryan and Sara. In 1987, they moved to the family farm where he had turkeys and beef cattle. Steve was active in the Vergas community his entire life. He was a member of the Vergas Jaycees and Vergas Lions. He also served on the Vergas City Council, Vergas Cemetery Board, Vergas Assisted Living Board, and the Hobart Township Board. He was a proud member of the Vergas CDH Fire and Rescue Squad for 30 years. Steve was active in his church, serving as a trustee at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vergas. He proudly served as a member of the Lake Region Veterans Color Guard. Steve enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed deer hunting, drives around the countryside in the Gator and riding his Harley with Diane. Steve is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diane. Children Ryan (Lisa Preuss) of Waseca, MN and Sara (Greg) Sliter of Rice, MN. Grandchildren: Morgan, Mallory, Ava, Ella, Olivia, Lyncin, Xavyer, and Tevyn. Three brothers: Jerry (Pam) Bruhn of Moorhead, MN, Jamie Bruhn of Detroit Lakes, MN, Joe (Julie) Bruhn of Vergas, MN; one sister, Claudia (Robbie) Schmid of Vergas, MN; mother-in-law, Margie Schwandt of Frazee, MN; aunts: Bernice Smith, Jeanette Bruhn, Pat Ehlke, and Louise Bruhn; uncle, Ray Bruhn; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. Preceding Steve in death were his parents; father-in-law, Duane Schwandt; and nephew, Aaron Albright.

Diane , my deepest condolences. We were all so young when we ran around together when I was married to Marvin Kratzke. I Remarried And my husband also passed away. Just know that steve will be with you as his soul still lives. Take life slow for a while and stay close to your loved ones. You are in my prayers

I was sorry to hear of Steve's accident. I am so sorry for your lost. Steve and I had many good times at Frazee High School. He was a good person and enjoyed life. I am sure he was a good husband, father, and grandfather.
