Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Directors - Tyler Obituary

Steve Lenhart Coker, Jr. passed away on June 24, 2024 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital.

Steve was born in Pearsall, TX where he grew up working in the family grocery store until they moved to Dallas at the age of 14.  He graduated from Bryan Adams High School and attended East Texas State University.  He then went with his cousin, Chey Coker, to Alaska where they worked for Wien Air Alaska, Wally Hinkel’s governor campaign, and maintained a combination Dahl sheep camp and gold mine on Lake Chandalar in the Brooks Range.  Over his lifetime he started many successful businesses from Steve’s Potatoes to Coker Enterprises.  From childhood, he had a deep love of flying.  He got his pilot’s license in 1968 and, over the years, flew all over the country, including Alaska.  Very few weekends went by without flying somewhere.  He helped develop Kay Ranch airport, fondly known as “the farm”.  He loved entertaining there with family and friends, cooking and giving airplane rides.

He is preceded in death by his father, Steve Coker, Sr., his mother Frances Coker, and sister Kathy Dooley as well as other family members.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Coker, children Steve Coker III and wife Misty and daughter Janie Pritchard and husband Geoff as well as his grandchildren Steve Coker IV, William Coker, Grant Pritchard, Sarah Pritchard, and other family members.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 28th at Jackson’s Burks Walker Tippit from 5:30-7:30 pm.  The funeral service will be held at Marvin Methodist Church on Saturday, June 29th at 2:00 pm with reception to follow and family burial after.  Dr. Doug Baker and Dr. Tommy Williams will be officiating.

Happy birthday Steve. You are missed but never will forget your impish smile and humor.

Your friendship runs deep with our family. Blessings to your family on your 1 st anniversary of now living with Jesus.

I was just made aware of Steve’s death. I was shocked and saddened. I was totally unaware of his sickness. Steve was a special, special personto all with whom he came in contact! My prayers are for the family.

Steve was a close friend of my brother and me. My brother, John Egnew, Danny McNeely, and Steve were hinged at the hip. High school days were never better than those of their days. So car crazy and good good friends. Just found out today that Steve had passed, I am heart broken. My brother will welcome him in heaven with open arms. My deepest condolences to the family.

Sweet Sally and children. I feel so terrible I did not learn of the passing of dear Steve until today. I hold in my heart sweet memories of you all.
Please accept my sincere condolences and my prayers as you readjust your life without him.

Please accept my deepest condolence on the death of Steve. Linda Vandiver (Paul's girlfriend)

In loving memory of a great guy! I have known Steve for over 15 years. I met Steve by doing business with him back in 2008. He was an honest businessman, a great neighbor, and a great friend. He will be missed! My prayers are with Sally, Stevie, and the family.
