Not sure what to say?

I'm shocked and grieved to hear of Steve's death...some time later. We met through friends when I lived in Tallahassee and he came over once a week for (I'm sure) the only good meal he ate that week. We became good friends and even as our lives drifted in distance he would get in contact when he was back in the midwest. He packed the adventures of several lifetimes into his one, albeit brief, time on this earth. My condolences to you Karen. I know he loved you deeply.

As a person who went to a few of those national parks with Steve, I can attest to the fact that he loved nature and traveling. I learned so much from him as a co-worker and road-trip friend. Steve, you will always be remembered. I hope his family can find some comfort in all the kind words about Steve since his passing.

My father, a colleague of Steve's who died 26 years ago when Steve first started writing about FSU sports thought Steve would turn out to be a tremendous writer, and he was correct. I am so sorry for your loss. May God be with you during this difficult time and give you His comfort and peace now and always.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family/ the Patton's on byron rd winter park Fl (Jim's neighbors)Ellen, Debbie, Chester

As a former co-worker and associate of Steve, I am truly thankful for the many, many long and sometimes all-nighters near deadline, the arduous road trips which always led to some out of the way hike and more often than not, life stories. While the years let the people drift apart, the heart always holds the sotries and adventures near and dear.
May those same dear memories help family and his many other friends deal with this earthly sorrowful time and help us all find it within us to...

Dear Karen and family:
Please accept my heartfelt condolences in your loss. I am appreciative of Steve's devotion to his calling and his fairness in all that he did. He was a true professional journalist and good friend to Florida State.

I will miss my old friend Steve "Eli" Ellis. We received our Eagle Scout Award together, we ran together at Winter Park High School (FL State CC Champions in '72) and he was a groomsman in my wedding. I loved Steve. He was a good friend. Although we never had a lot of time to visit or talk during the last 15 years, there was always deadline, we remained close in heart. I wished we would have connected last month when I called. May the Lord comfort his wife, parents and sister.

I'll miss Steve. I always enjoyed his writing. To his family: He was taken from you too young, but no man knows the time or the place he'll be called home. Rest in Peace, Steve.
