I worked for Steve at the Bellevue Butcher Restaurant in 1974. He was a great guy to work for. He was a natural leader, a hard worker and fair. Steve possessed a great sense of humor, which served to defuse many a tense moment that would arise in our fast-paced lunch environment. He taught me everything I needed to know about being a kitchen manager and because of that training, I went on to enjoy success in that role for several Seattle area restaurants. To the Fortun family,

I was saddened to hear about Steve's passing. He was a teacher, a mentor, and a great guy. Steve taught me how to cook steaks and manage a kitchen at the Butcher restaurant when I was a teenager. Yet, it was his passion and dedication to being the very best that has stayed with me these past 30 years.
