Grayson, Steve Grant
64, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2014 at his home in Magdalena, NM with his family at his side. He was born in Merrill, OR on July 5, 1950 to Ervin and Mildred (Rector) Grayson. Steve was a hardworking man and dedicated husband and father. He never met a stranger and would brighten up any room with his affectionate smile and his welcoming and quick witted sense of humor. Steve was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping with family and friends. He enjoyed watching all sports and was an avid pool shark and won many pool tournaments. Steve cheered on the Dallas Cowboys, even when it was a little embarrassing. He was a lifelong resident of Magdalena. He and Colleen owned and operated the Golden Spur for 25 years and he retired from the VLA in 2006 after 27 years of service. Steve and the Grayson family have always been actively involved in the Mag community and are grateful for the many years of friendships and support. Steve will be greatly missed and always remembered as a wonderful man who enjoyed life to the fullest, enjoyed the sunrise and the sunset, and always had a kind word and smile to share with everyone. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his sisters, Charlotte Grayson; and Virginia Gutierrez. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Colleen Grayson; his devoted son, Phillip Grayson; his loving daughter, Denise Grayson; his brother, Everett Grayson; his sisters, Evelyn Brennan and husband, Pat; and Shirley Roberts and husband, Leon; and his brother in law, Pat Gutierrez. Steve will also be greatly missed by many other loving family members and close friends. A Celebration of Steve's life will be held on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 4:00 pm at the Magdalena High School Gymnasium followed by a reception. There will also be a wake like gathering at the Golden Spur following the reception to share stories, memories, and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions and donations may be given in Steve's honor to the Magdalena Athletic Department, PO Box 24, Magdalena, NM 87825. Not sure what to say?

I was deeply saddened upon hearing of Steve's passing. Too many years have passed since I last saw the man I had the honor of calling friend. My thoughts and love to family and friends.

Sincere Condolences to Steve's family. He was a fine man, a friend and coworker. He always had a smile and congenial words for those he encountered.

He was an asset to his workplace and his community, and will be missed — but more importantly, he'll be fondly remembered.
