Steve Johnson

Gregory Steven Johnson “Steve”, age 70, of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021. He was born on August 11, 1951 in Gary, Indiana to the late John and Lorene Johnson. On July 11, 1970 he married Vicky Dewberry in Hobart, Indiana. He retired from American Steel Foundries and more recently from Filter Specialist where he worked as a purchasing manager. From coaching youth sports and his daughter’s softball team to watching Football on television, Steve loved sports. He was an avid fan of the Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Bears and Indiana University. Above all, he was a family man who loved camping with his wife and children at Hudson Lake. He emphasized the importance of an education to his children and leaves behind a legacy of integrity and hard work. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Vicky Johnson; sons, Eric (Megan) Johnson of Chicago, IL, Bradley Johnson of Winfield, IN, Brandon (Jessica) Johnson of North Judson, IN; daughter, Anne (Edward) Casko of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Carter and Lainey Casko, Shane and Taylor Johnson, Kate and Tess Johnson; brother, Brent Johnson.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lorene Johnson; and grandson, Jack Donald Johnson. Memorial contributions in Steve’s name may be made to Lakeshore PAWS, 4611 Evans Ave., Valparaiso, IN 46383.

A funeral service for Steve will take place Monday, October 18, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. For more information, please call (219) 942-2109.
