Steve Sokol once did 1,000 sit-ups in 10 minutes and cycled 500 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles without every touching the bike seat -- circus-like feats of endurance and strength that earned him the title,"World's Fittest Man."So it was particularly shocking to friends and family --...

Not sure what to say?

First met "Sokol" or Sok as I called him (we called each other by our last names) when I started working & training at Schoeber's Athletic/Health Club in south San Jose as we both heard about each other through others, since we were two people with long training routines (mine for Triathlon's & he for his Super Feats of Endurance)! He was one of those Very Rare People you meet in your life who are not just Smarter than you & more Physically Fit, but actually much nicer than you Could Ever...

I am so incredibly saddened to find out about Steve's passing.....I just googled his name to show a friend some of the incredible feats that Steve had performed, and instead get to read about this horrible event....
Steve was a friend and classmate in high school, always a person of good humor and keen wit....over the years, I have always gotten a huge kick out of his various achievements, he was truly one of a kind
My sincerest condolences go out to his family

rest in peace steve! i watched your absolute abs today too! thank you! i hope you are in a better place now! thank you steve, you made my life easier.

I just learned of Steve passing today - several months after the fact. I met Steve udring my days working at Schoeber's Athletics Club. There are 2 words that immediately come to mind to describe him:
1 "Genuine"
2 Gentleman

One day he came up to me and said "you should never lose a match because you are tired" (during my days when I played in frequent racquetball tournaments) So I started to train on the "Stairmasters" - Several months later he told me that he regrets...

I ran track at Santa Teresa, and would always see Mr. Sokol and Alex running while we practiced. Mr. Sokol was always helpful, and praised us for our hard work. He was a great man, and his presence will be missed. I'm sorry for your loss.

We have organized the Steve Sokol Memorial 5K Run/Walk to be held July 17, 2011 at Almaden Lake Park. Registrations are open, go to http://www.svetiming.com/events/Steve-Sokol-Memorial-5k

Steve breaks situp world record

Dear Leslie & Alex, I worked with Steve at IBM, San Jose from 1979-1981. Steve was truly an inspirational guy and we all loved him. I was with him when he broke the situp world record at a San Jose Mall (photo attached). Steve touched many lives and will truly be missed. I am so sorry.

I worked with Steve for many years through ClubOne and the san jose fire department wellness program and he truly was an inspiration as well as very passionate about health and fitness. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Dear Leslie and Alex, I am truly saddened and sorry for your loss. As you know, Steve was always a fixture in the pool at AVAC. I am an aqua instructor there and when I lost 50 lbs he was so kind and praised me, but told me "I will kick your butt if you gain it back" and I told him PLEASE Do! He inspired me and he will truely be missed!
