Steve Young was one of my earliest students in the 1960s in Boston, and a very special student indeed! We quickly went beyond the teacher/student relationship to become colleagues and life-long friends. He was the personification of "irrepressible", always positive, always helpful, always accomplishing things.
We saw each other very little during the past 35 years, but through his arrangements for bassoon ensemble and my many fond memories, he was never far from my heart and mind....

I remember Steve from alot of connections through work in Boston for many years- I was touched by finding out through this "Notice" that I have/had a special link to Steve to now enjoy as coincidental- we were not only colleagues at many gigs, but I am delighted to learn thru this bittersweet news that Steve & I were exactly 6 months apart in our birthdays/& age :-) Likely a bit of extra input for my enjoying my interactions at work!
He is already being missed by so many of us that...

It was heart breaking for me to hear of the sudden death of Steve Young. I had the good fortune of working with Steve for many years, first when he was a board member and then when he was elected president of the Boston Musicians Association. I always appreciated how respectful Steve was of the women in the office. He was so efficient and innovative taking the local into the computer age while always being pleasant and fun to work with. At local 9-535 we were extremely proud when Steve was...

Such a loss. I knew Steve through our association with the Council of New Jersey State College Locals. He was kind, supportive, and an all-around nice guy who taught me a lot about politics. He will be missed.

Steve mentored me when I was just getting started. A cool head, generous nature and musician's ally. He was the first to get AFM Local 9-535 up on a professional basis. It was reassuring for a worrier such as I to know that he was there in case anything came up.

I first met Steve in the 80's when we were both playing at the Cape Cod Melody Tent. I will forever remember his unusual Citron car that would float up on its wheels when turned on! He was always kind and supportive, even years after he left for his work with the AFM in New York. He forever changed the Musician's Union and we all owe him our thanks.
